Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Angel* joined Missions of Hope Molo Milimani Center in Grade 2. Before her enrollment, she did not go to school due to a lack of school fees. She comes from a family of six members who live in Molo town. As a family, they faced many challenges, one of them being financial constraints. Angel’s parents were unemployed, making it difficult to make ends meet. But after a referral to Missions of Hope International by a neighbour, Angel’s father was helped by a MOHI social worker.

He was enlightened about financial literacy and the importance of education. He had told the social worker how he had tried different businesses, which did not work out for him. As a result, he lacked the finances to educate his children, also adding to the fact that he did not see the value in education. The social worker facilitated the joining of Angel’s father in a group that would empower him in taking small loans and pursuing farming.

Angel, on the other hand, joined school for the first time while her mother was also enrolled in an economic empowerment program. Angel’s mother was now able to save up money, which she used to set up a grocery stand for selling vegetables. She is now a happy woman and grateful that MOHI upgraded her lifestyle from being an unemployed housewife to a business owner. Both parents are now able to take their children to school.

Angel enjoys her new life. She is happy that she is in school learning with her age mates. Her two elder sisters are also enrolled in school now. They are in a high school based not far from where they live.

The family’s income has increased and they also live in a fairly stable house, trusting in God to continue blessing them.
