Hope Transforms: A Success Story
Kennedy\* is the second-born child in a family of three. His parents separated when he and his sisters were young. The eldest child dropped out of college during her first year. Kennedy and his family struggled to make ends meet, as their mother could not afford to send them to school.
A MOHI social worker met Kennedy working at a hotel and recruited him to MOHI. He was enrolled in boarding school at the Ndovoini Center. Kennedy thrived in this new environment, enjoying school and achieving good grades on his national tests. He was able to move on to high school.
Meanwhile, Kennedy's mother joined a MOHI empowerment group called Visionaries. Inspired by the program, she decided to improve her life by enrolling in college and becoming a teacher. The group also has an income-generating project growing and selling potatoes.
A social worker conducted a home visit and found that the family had undergone a significant transformation. Thanks to MOHI, the mother now owns a small home in Molo, and the children are attending school with fewer challenges. Kennedy's mother is a graduate of Early Childhood Development Education, and the family is now able to meet their basic needs.
