Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Mary has been a social worker at Missions of Hope Gitathuru Center since 2022. She is the second-born child in a family of five. She first joined Missions of Hope International as a student in 2007 at Missions of Hope Kosovo Center. A social worker visited her family's home in Kosovo and invited her to join the program.

Coming from a humble background, Mary's family struggled to make ends meet and provide quality education. Joining the Kosovo Center was a significant turning point for her. Through MOHI, she saw a pathway to a brighter future. The education she received equipped her with the skills and knowledge she needed to contribute to her community. MOHI's belief in her potential and the opportunities given to her motivated her to want to give back to the community, just as MOHI had given to her. MOHI supported her education from primary school all the way through college, where she studied Social Work and Community Development.

Through MOHI's spiritual programs, she found a sense of belonging and a supportive community. The teachings deepened her faith and gave her strength and inspiration. She is eternally grateful for the love, guidance, and support she received from MOHI.

After high school, while she waited to start college, Mary took a job as a camp mentor at MOHI's Angaza Discovery Camp. This was her first job, and it sparked her passion for giving back to her community and becoming a social worker. When she decided to pursue social work, MOHI once again sponsored her education. She later joined Gitathuru Center as a social worker in 2022.

This new job has provided her with the means to support herself and her family. She is incredibly grateful for MOHI's role in helping her achieve financial security and long-term growth. She also has access to healthcare that would otherwise be out of reach in her community.

Mary is grateful to MOHI for shaping her life in every aspect - education, economics, health, and spirituality. MOHI taught her the values of faith, integrity, and service. These principles will continue to guide her as she moves forward, carrying the lessons from MOHI into every aspect of her life.

Term Highlights

  • We are proud of our Grade 4 students who had the opportunity to participate in the MOHI Spelling Bee competitions. The competition helped them develop self-confidence and improve their communication skills.

  • Our kindergarten and middle school students participated in a swimming competition at one of our neighboring schools. This was very motivating for the students to improve their swimming skills and was encouraging for those who may want to pursue it competitively.

  • We held our student’s annual Christmas party this term. The students always highly anticipate the event.

  • We were so proud of all our Grade 6 students. They all took important national exams and will be joining junior secondary school next year.

  • Our kindergarten students graduated this term and will be joining first grade in the new year. They celebrated this great achievement with family and friends during a graduation ceremony.
