Greetings from Gitathuru!

Greetings from Gitathuru Center! We would like to share some of the term activities and highlights that we greatly appreciate God for enabling us to achieve during the first term of the year 2024. Thank you for your support and partnership as we work together to transform lives through the hope of Christ.

Flood Update:

Since this Community Update was written before the extreme rain and flooding took place in Kenya, we want to provide a quick update.

Although we recently experienced heavy rains and flooding, we are thankful to report that our center was not damaged. Unfortunately, however, several of our students and their families were directly affected by the flooding. We are connecting with them to provide support.

If you'd like to donate to MOHI's flood relief efforts, you can donate here.

Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Rose*, a single mother, has been a dedicated parent at Missions of Hope Center Gitathuru since its inception. When she first met MOHI, she was facing immense challenges and felt hopeless. With two children to support, Rose struggled to make ends meet as the sole provider for her family, unable to afford the steep school fees in other schools.

Her life took a turn for the better when her children were accepted into the MOHI program. Her eldest is now in their third year in university studying accounting, while her second child is in Grade 11 in high school benefiting from the MOHI sponsorship program.

Enrolling her children in the MOHI education program not only ensured they received a quality Christian education but also provided them with essential meals they often went without at home. Through MOHI’s  Community Health Education (CHE) program, Rose participated in community empowerment initiatives at our Gitathuru Center. Here, she learned valuable skills in soap making, mat weaving, and other business skills like savings, table banking, and entrepreneurial management.

Inspired by what she learned, Rose and fellow participants formed a group, initiating table banking and saving schemes among themselves to support their businesses. Their collaboration led to a contract with MOHI to supply soap to the center, significantly boosting their economic standing. With the profits earned, many members, including Rose, ventured into their own businesses, providing newfound stability for their families.

Today, Rose gives back to her community by training other women at Gitathuru, sharing the skills that transformed her life and empowering others to become self-reliant.
