Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Grace* is a devoted single mother to two boys in Grade 5 and 8. To support her family, she works hard doing laundry jobs in her community. But despite her efforts, Grace found herself facing serious financial and health challenges. She often couldn’t afford both rent and the medication she needed, and as her health worsened, her ability to work declined.

Her sons were also affected. Without enough food at home, especially during weekends and school breaks, their health and academic performance began to suffer. The stress of watching their mother struggle deeply impacted them, leaving them anxious and unable to focus in class.

That’s when a Missions of Hope International social worker stepped in. She began walking closely with the family, offering prayer, encouragement, and practical support. She even worked with the MOHI staff to ensure the boys could get something to eat before heading home each day.

During regular visits, the social worker encouraged Grace to join MOHI’s microfinance program. With time, Grace gained the strength and motivation to join a local economic empowerment group in the Gitathuru community. She began saving just $2 a week, and soon was able to secure a small loan to help meet some of her family’s basic needs.

Today, Grace is not only able to purchase her medication, but her health has also greatly improved. Her journey is a testament to the power of encouragement, prayer, and economic empowerment. We praise God for how far she’s come, and we look forward to seeing what’s next for this strong and faithful mother.

Term Highlights

  • This term, we were thrilled to see our kindergarten students shine at the regional drama competition! After several years of trying, they secured second place, earning a spot at the National Drama Festival. This co-curricular activity has been a wonderful opportunity for our students to explore their talents and grow in self-confidence.

  • We’re also grateful to God for a successful talent show, where every student had the chance to showcase their gifts. Events like these help our learners not only discover their strengths but also learn to appreciate and celebrate each other’s unique abilities.

  • Another highlight of the term was the introduction of the Gitathuru Center Affirmation. Now recited regularly by our students, staff, and parents, this powerful declaration inspires our entire school community to keep working hard and stay focused on a brighter future.

  • We thank God for the impact of the Ignite Program. This term, 15 of our students gave their lives to Christ and began attending a new believers' class. We are so excited to see how God will continue to work in their hearts and lives.

Partner Connections

  • We are so grateful for the team from Amity Dayton Church who visited our Gitathuru Center and brought encouragement, hope, and practical support to our students. They led engaging VBS sessions that helped the children better understand the power of faith. The team also conducted vision screenings for 244 students and provided eyeglasses to those in need, enabling them to fully engage in their learning. In addition, A firefighter from the team led a fire safety training for staff and members of the school’s fire safety club. He also helped conduct a full school fire drill.
