Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Sally* is a 10-year-old student in Grade 3 at Missions of Hope Chumani Center. She lives with her family in a remote village in the Chumani Community.

Life has not been easy for Sally. Her mother lives with a mental disability, which has made it difficult for her to care for the family. As a result, Sally and her siblings are being raised by their 65-year-old grandmother, who does her best to provide for them despite many challenges.

Sally is a born-again Christian and faithfully attends Outreach Hope Church Chumani. Even while she was out of school, she often prayed that God would make a way for her to return and pursue her dream of becoming a doctor.

Her journey of hope began during a visit by a MOHI ministry partner, Snyder Memorial Baptist Church, to the Chumani community. One of the team members noticed Sally standing by a fence, watching other students joyfully. Moved by her spirit, they asked if she could be enrolled in the MOHI program. After a home visit by a MOHI social worker, Sally was officially enrolled, opening the door for her to continue her education.

Today, Sally’s story stands as a beautiful testimony to the fact that God answers prayers. With the love, care, and support she receives through MOHI, she has regained hope and is determined to work hard toward her dream of becoming a doctor.

Term Highlights

  • We held our second Center Heritage Day, celebrating the rich diversity of Kenyan cultures through songs and dances. This helps our students appreciate each other’s cultures.
  • We harvested watermelons from our Farming God's Way school garden. For some of our students, it was their first time tasting watermelon! We supplemented our feeding program with the fruit.
  • We held our second graduation ceremony, where we proudly celebrated 111 preschool graduates!
