Hope Transforms: A Success Story
In the heart of Kilifi County, the coastal part of Kenya, a bright and ambitious girl named Charity was born. As the sixth-born in a family of eight, life was anything but easy. Her parents struggled to provide, and many days, they survived on just one meal—or none at all. Hardships took a toll on her, and without the means to afford school fees, Charity was forced to stay at home instead of learning.
Her health was also at stake. She was malnourished and underweight. But in 2023, everything changed when she joined Missions of Hope Chumani Center. For the first time, she had access to quality education, nutritious meals, and medical care. A defining moment came during a MOHI medical camp in September 2023, where the medical team identified her as severely underweight. In response, the school took swift action, ensuring she received a third meal every day and a glass of milk every evening before heading home. She was also provided with iron and vitamin supplements to boost her immunity.
MOHI’s social workers went ahead and visited her home to educate her parents on the importance of proper nutrition. Their combined efforts worked. When the medical team returned in March 2024, Charity’s check-up results showed remarkable improvement. Her health stabilized and she finally had a smile on her face.
Charity is now in Grade 2 and is now filled with a newfound confidence and determination. She dreams of becoming a pilot and with the support of MOHI, she believes in the possibility of shaping her own future and that of her family.
Charity’s story is a powerful testament to the impact of education, healthcare, and holistic support. Through MOHI, she and her family have found hope and a brighter future ahead.
