Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Ruth* is a member of our Outreach Hope Church in Mathare North. She is a single mother of two and a grandmother of three children. She joined the church about five years ago.

Ruth had no source of income and struggled to make ends meet. Like many of the families living in the Mathare slums, Ruth lived in a single-room house made of iron sheets. The house was located in the heart of the slum with narrow streets and poor drainage.

As a result, Ruth grew bitter and angry with life. Although she was an active member of the church, her struggles weighed her down and made her moody and rude. Her fellow church members often found it difficult to relate to her.

However, things changed for Ruth when she joined the intercessory group. As the group grew in prayer, Ruth's faith in God's ability to answer her prayers grew. She shared her struggles with the group, and they began to trust in God together.

The group met every Sunday morning before the service to commit different things to God in prayer. Soon, Ruth began to see a change. First, her attitude improved, and she became full of joy despite the hardship. Then, God answered her prayers.

Ruth landed a job that allowed her to move her family out of the deplorable house they lived in and into better living conditions. Ruth continues to serve in the intercessory ministry, knowing the power of prayer. She prays diligently and proudly shares her testimony, encouraging others to trust in God's goodness.
