Flood Update:

Since this Community Update was written before the extreme rain and flooding took place in Kenya, we want to provide a quick update.

Although we recently experienced heavy rains and flooding, we are thankful to report that our center was not damaged. Unfortunately, however, several of our students and their families were directly affected by the flooding. We are connecting with them to provide support.

If you'd like to donate to MOHI's flood relief efforts, you can donate here.

Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Meet Hannah*, age 11, and the third born in a family of seven residing in the Madoya slum of Mathare. Living in a one-room house with her grandmother and siblings, their humble abode is where they call home. Hannah's grandmother, a widow, supports the family through a small-scale business, earning an average of $1.00 - $1.25 per day.

Hannah's journey with Missions of Hope International (MOHI) began in January 2017. She was recruited into the program after meeting a social worker during home visits. Raised by her grandmother, due to her mother's early pregnancy during her schooling years, Hannah has always been surrounded by love and care. Despite facing challenges, including illness, Hannah's resilient spirit has been a source of strength for her family.

Diagnosed with kidney cancer, Hannah underwent a challenging medical journey, including surgery to remove one of her kidneys. Throughout this ordeal, her family relied on the power of prayer, finding solace in their faith and the unwavering support of MOHI staff. With determination and faith, Hannah overcame her illness and resumed her education with renewed vigor.

Today, Hannah is a beacon of hope, excelling in her studies and actively participating in school activities. Her grandmother, grateful for the support received during their time of need, continues to pray for Hannah's academic success, knowing that with God, all things are possible.

Hannah dreams of becoming a designer in the future, inspired by her journey of resilience and hope.
