Hope Transforms: A Success Story
At 20 years old, Lenny* lives with his mother Edna in Mabatini, where they have been residing for the past 25 years. Edna, who is a single mother of two, also takes care of her two grandchildren, who are both beneficiaries of the MOHI program, with one in preschool and the other in Grade 8. To make ends meet, Edna runs a small business near the school, where she sells boiled green bananas.
Before MOHI’s intervention, Edna survived on casual jobs such as handwashing clothes and other household chores. The family struggled to pay rent and to get basic needs. In 2008, after hearing about MOHI from neighbors, Edna came to the school, and her first son was enrolled in Grade 1 the following year. This marked the beginning of their journey with MOHI. Lenny also joined Mabatini in 2012.
While in Grade 11, Lenny faced discipline issues. He often found himself in bad company. Concerned about his son’s future, Edna approached our social worker and shared her story. The social worker saw the need to help. Through counseling and prayer, by both the mother and the MOHI social worker, Lenny turned his life around. He committed his life to Christ and even served as the chairperson of the transformation team in school, guiding fellow students toward positive change.
Lenny sat for his high school exit tests in 2024, where he excelled. Currently, he has joined the Mnara program at MOHI (a gap year program for high school graduates that helps them figure out their career path, among other skills). He is looking forward to joining a university and pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Banking and Finance.
Since joining MOHI in 2009, Edna and her family have experienced a holistic transformation. Previously dependent on casual jobs and struggling to meet basic needs, Edna now runs a small business near the school, supporting her children and grandchildren. Her son Lenny, who once faced discipline issues, was guided through counseling and spiritual growth at MOHI, leading to academic success and a renewed purpose. The family now enjoys stability, quality education, spiritual growth, and hope for a brighter future.

Term Highlights
- We are very proud to have our students participate in the Kenya Music Festivals up to the regional level.
- We had a health clinic launched at our center! The clinic will help our staff, students, and community whenever they face health issues.
- During this term, our students enjoyed a much-needed fun day, which provided a refreshing break from their usual classroom routine. The event was filled with excitement and joy as students engaged in various activities and games.
- We hosted talent shows for our preschool and lower primary school students. This gave them a chance to shine and showcase their creativity. It was a wonderful time of fun, laughter, and discovery.
Church Highlights
- We have been able to reach out to over 300 people through various activities, including home visits and evangelism events.
- We are happy to share that during a recent home visit, we saw the transformation of an entire family! The family was experiencing deep conflict; a daughter and her mother were not even speaking to one another. Through counseling and open conversation, God brought healing and reconciliation. The entire family surrendered their lives to Jesus and is now actively involved in Outreach Hope Church Huruma.
Partner Connections
- We were pleased to have a team from Community Christian Church visit us this term. They conducted a VBS for over 719 students that was focused on trusting God. The students enjoyed the lessons, which included: crafts and games, worship sessions and Bible stories.
- We had Mendy visit us, and she trained teachers on classroom management and did assessments for the same to the teachers who were trained.
Prayer Requests
- Pray for more unsponsored students to get sponsors.
- Pray for peace and tranquility in our country.
- Pray for our parents to experience financial stability so they can continue to provide for their families and support their children's education and well-being.
