Hope Transforms: A Success Story
Mercy* and Daniel* are parents at Missions of Hope Kosovo Center. They have lived in Mathare slums for the past 10 years in a single-roomed house made of iron sheets. The two are blessed with three children, two who are currently a part of MOHI’s program. Despite their hard work (Daniel as a bus driver for over a decade and Mercy as a housekeeper) their income has never been enough to fully meet the family’s needs.
Brenda* and Cindy* were recruited into MOHI’s program by social workers during home visits. Once Brenda finished primary school, she was sponsored by MOHI to attend high school. On completion, she applied for the Higher Education Fund at MOHI that enabled her to join Kenya Medical Training College where she is studying to become a clinical officer. Cindy also thrived at MOHI’s Kosovo Center. She excelled in her studies and also joined high school in another county where MOHI still sponsors her.
Their parents have been grateful to MOHI for the support and prayers which has given them hope and opportunity for their children to pursue their dreams. Through MOHI, Brenda and Cindy are on a path to break the cycle of poverty and have a brighter future.
MOHI did not however just impact Benda and Cindy but their mother as well. In 2015, Mercy enrolled in the MOHI Technical Training Institute (MTTI) where she trained to be a dressmaker. When she graduated, she was given a sewing machine to start her own business. Her hard work paid off and she started supporting her family financially. She was among the best students who qualified for tenders to supply school uniforms through MOHI, working from home with all materials provided.
She currently has her own shop making custom dresses. She also makes and supplies uniforms to schools within the community. She is also empowering and training other ladies from the community on sewing skills. She has also expanded her business by selling other items like soup, eggs and other food supplies. Recently, she joined a CHE (Community Health Evangelism) group led by social workers from Kosovo where she dreams of expanding her small shop to a bigger room that will fit all her business in one roof.
Mercy is thankful to MOHI for the support, training, microfinance, health care, education to her children and prayers which have transformed her life and given her hope for a bright future for her family. Through evangelism, the entire family accepted Christ and actively attends a local church. They have adopted a culture of knowing God's ways more by reading the Bible every day in the evening and praying as a family.
We thank God for the great transformation of the family.

Term Highlights
- We are proud of our music students for showcasing their talents while participating in the Kenya Music Festival competitions. They took part in the sub-county competitions, and had a great time performing and meeting other students from other schools and growing their talents.
- We are excited for our soccer team who managed to compete in both the sub-county and regional competitions hosted by the Kenya Primary School Sports Association. This is amazing because the Kosovo community has no playground but the staff managed to train and present a strong team of boys with the little that they have!
- We are thankful for our parents who have shown tremendous support to the school. They are actively participating in economic empowerment groups aimed at personal and family growth and self-sufficiency. This involvement will contribute significantly to the holistic transformation of our students.
Partner Connections
- We thank God for LifeSpring CC who visited and prayed with families, interacted with staff and sponsored students. The staff, students and parents were excited and encouraged by their support.
- We thank God for the interns from the US who visited families, conducted VBS for our students, and interacted with staff. They worked alongside staff and students in the community and classrooms motivating our teams!
- We thank God for the Lincoln Heights Christian Church team who visited and prayed for families, accompanied students for field trips, and interacted with staff. The staff and students were encouraged by the great love.
Prayer Requests
- Pray for God's protection and provision for the families and students we are serving in the Kosovo community.
- Pray for God's guidance and sufficient grace to all staff as they serve and reach out to more souls to transform their lives.
