Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Eunice* is a single mother of four children. When a MOHI social worker first met her during a home visit, she was jobless, discouraged, and struggling to survive. Her two eldest children had recently dropped out of school due to lack of fees, and the future looked bleak.

Eunice had separated from her husband after enduring years of abuse. She was living in a small one-room home made of corrugated tin, with only a thin mattress and a few cooking utensils. The house leaked whenever it rained, and the area was surrounded by open drains, garbage, and exposed sewage. Her children were visibly distressed, often going without food, medical care, or even the most basic necessities.

Though Eunice was attending a local church and had a strong faith in God, she was barely hanging on. The little help she received came from kind neighbors and a few church members. Everything changed when her children were recruited into MOHI’s program. She called it a miracle that her children were now going to school.

MOHI provided her children with uniforms, school supplies, and the support they needed to begin learning. This lifted a huge burden off Eunice’s shoulders and gave her a renewed sense of hope. She began doing casual jobs and slowly regained her confidence. In conversations with her social worker, she shared her passion for hairdressing. With continued encouragement and counseling, she enrolled in a part-time college and completed a three-month course to sharpen her skills.

Today, Eunice works as a hairdresser. She is able to provide for her children and help meet basic needs. All four of her children are enrolled at Missions of Hope International, where they receive nutritious meals, medical care, and spiritual support. Their health has improved, and they are now confident enough to speak English, something they couldn’t do in their previous schools.

Through programs like Angaza Discovery Camp (MOHI’s discipleship camp for all our sixth graders), Eunice’s older children have experienced tremendous growth—spiritually, academically, and emotionally. They are more responsible, disciplined, and engaged in their learning. They have avoided negative influences and instead become bold in sharing the Word of God. They are part of a local church's praise and worship team and have become a source of encouragement for their mother and younger siblings.

Eunice’s family has undergone a complete transformation. What was once a household filled with despair is now one filled with hope, joy, and purpose. We thank God for the progress they’ve made and remain committed to walking with them as the children pursue their dreams.

Term Highlights

  • Our drama club students participated in the Kenya National Drama Festival. Our talented performers emerged as second runners-up in all six categories they competed in. They are very excited about this great achievement and the support they received from the staff and parents.

  • Our track and field team competed in the national competitions and emerged as some of the best. It is unbelievable that Kosovo has inadequate space for practice, but they used the community road for training sessions and did a wonderful job.

  • We thank God for our parents who, in large numbers, embraced and attended health, spiritual, counseling, and financial literacy training at the center, seeking knowledge and skills for self-growth and parental responsibility.

  • Our Grade 6 students who gave their lives to Christ while at Angaza Discovery Camp, completed their discipleship classes and have made the decision to be baptized, praise God!
