Hello from Kariobangi Center! We are thankful to God for this first term of 2024. We trust that you are doing well. The students, staff, parents, and community at Kariobangi Center deeply appreciate your incredible support as we bring hope to the Kariobangi community through the love of Jesus.

Flood Update:

Since this Community Update was written before the extreme rain and flooding took place in Kenya, we want to provide a quick update.

During the heavy rains, our center flooded. This caused damage to the school and to the skills training facility. Additionally, some of our students and their families were affected by the flooding. We are connecting with them to provide support.

Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Cathrine*, a single mother of three children, has been bedridden since 2019. She is a mother of two daughters, 17 and 21 years old, and one son who is 12 years old. In 2019, Cathrine fell ill and tested positive for HIV/AIDS; but she subsequently refused to take antiretroviral (ARV) medication. Her health deteriorated rapidly, and she faced numerous other health complications. With Cathrine unable to work, providing food became a significant challenge. Cathrine's condition worsened to a point where she could neither sit nor stand.

Our social worker began visiting Cathrine's family regularly, providing food and companionship. Through these visits, Cathrine found solace in the word of God and gave her life to Jesus. She also opened up about her illness. She told our social worker that she had initially refused treatment in hopes of succumbing to the disease. She had given up all hope in life, but Jesus came into her heart and she found a reason to live and keep on going. 

With the support and counseling from our social worker, Cathrine agreed to start taking her ARV medication. Slowly, her health improved, and she can now stand and walk with crutches. Cathrine expressed her passion for fashion and design and hopes to pursue it at the MOHI Technical Training Institute (MTTI). Soon she will join our MTTI. She aspires to start her own tailoring business and be able to provide for her family.

We thank God for Cathrine's recovery journey and pray for her continued healing and the fulfillment of her dreams. Hope truly transforms.

Term Highlights

• We are immensely thankful to God for the continued construction of our school building. The students at Kariobangi are eagerly anticipating learning in the new spacious classrooms once the building is completed.
  
  
• We're thrilled to announce that Kariobangi School will be hosting its first Junior Secondary School Grade 7 in 2024, marking the beginning of our pioneer class at the junior secondary level. This milestone is a testament to the work of the Lord.

Partner Connections

• We are excited to share that a team of ladies from Mountain Christian Church recently visited our Kariobangi Center and took their sponsored kids on a field trip. The children had fun during the outing and cherished the opportunity to bond with their sponsors.
  
  
• Neikola from Amity Christian Church paid a visit to our Kariobangi Center, leaving behind valuable materials for spiritual growth among students and staff. These resources are filled with insightful lessons on Christian values that will positively impact our community.
