Hope Transforms: A Success Story

We first encountered Faith* through a home visit initiative in 2019. MOHI had organized to visit cancer patients in the Kariobangi community and distribute food to them. Faith’s mother was among the cancer patients we visited and she had stage four cancer. During one of these home visits, Faith's mother introduced us to her daughter. Faith, the third of six children, was living with her family in Kariobangi at the time.

Faith had dropped out of school due to unpaid fees, and her mother was unable to work. Without support or guidance, she turned to drugs and became pregnant.

Recognizing her need to start afresh, with help from a social worker, we started Faith on a path to transformation. It was decided that the best course of action for Faith was to send her to a boarding school where all her needs would be met and she could concentrate on her studies.

Her past struggles made adjusting to school difficult, as she still struggled with drug addiction. She took time to reflect and make the bold choice to change. She was determined to make more of her life and take advantage of the opportunity she had been given by MOHI.

In Grade 10, Faith found faith during a talk by MOHI’s CEO, Dr. Wallace. She embraced a relationship with God and became active in the church. By Grade 11, Faith had taken on some responsibility, she was dining hall captain, and in Grade 12, she was dormitory captain. She ensured cleanliness and fair food distribution, earning respect from her peers.

Today, Faith is pursuing a social work certificate through the Mnara program at MOHI. Her son is thriving and in Grade 1 at MOHI’s Kariobangi Center.

We are incredibly grateful for Faith's transformation. Once hopeless, she now has a clear purpose and is determined to provide a bright future for her son.

Term Highlights

  • We are so proud of our students who competed in the Kenya Music Festival. They qualified for the finals, representing our county for the second time in a row. Congratulations to our talented students!

  • It was amazing to see our students from various grades take part in this year's African Child Read Aloud exercise. This exercise is geared toward helping our students learn to read and love reading. This sharpens their language skills and their confidence.

  • We are proud of our Grade 4 and 7 students who took part in MOHI's spelling bee and public speaking competition. Two of our students qualified for the finals. This has become a great activity that our students look forward to each year to show off their skills and meet other students from MOHI schools across the country.

Partner Connections

  • We were glad to welcome and enjoy good times with Antioch Christian Church this term. They conducted VBS for 328 students in kindergarten and Grades 1 - 3. The students enjoyed the games and crafts activities, Bible stories and the yummy snacks. They also had fun with all the 68 Grade 4 students at a local park in Nairobi.

  • It was amazing to host Third City Christian Church in our school. The team had VBS with students which included crafts, games, songs and dance, and issued special gift packs to each student, not forgetting the much appreciated snacks. They also had a wonderful retreat with all the Kariobangi staff out of town which was very exciting for the staff at Kariobangi
