Flood Update:

Since this Community Update was written before the extreme rain and flooding took place in Kenya, we want to provide a quick update.

Although we recently experienced heavy rains and flooding, we are thankful to report that our center was not badly damaged other than a few repairs.

Unfortunately, however, several of our students and their families were directly affected by the flooding. We are connecting with them to provide support.

If you'd like to donate to MOHI's flood relief efforts, you can donate here.

Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Matthew* is a kindergarten student at our Baba Dogo Center. He is the eldest child in his family and has a younger brother. The family resides in the Kasabuni area of Baba Dogo and attends a local church.

When Matthew was recruited into MOHI, his father worked as a painter while his mother was a homemaker. The family faced numerous challenges, struggling to afford basic necessities and facing overcrowded living conditions. Our social worker became aware of their situation during a home visit prompted by a concerned neighbor. Despite their hardships, Matthew's mother expressed a desire to enroll him at MOHI Baba Dogo Center.

While awaiting admission, the social worker continued to support the family, encouraging Matthew's mother to pursue small business opportunities to improve their financial situation. She began selling vegetables, generating some income to help meet their needs. Inspired by her efforts, both parents saved money, enabling Matthew's mother to return to school and pursue a certificate in social work at MOHI Technical Training Institute (MTTI).

Economically, the family has made significant progress. They moved to a more comfortable living space, experiencing fewer health issues due to improved ventilation. They were also able to purchase a new bed, while their old one was repaired for the children to use.

Matthew's well-being has also improved. He enjoys better health and happiness at school, benefiting from a balanced diet and spiritual education. Engaging in extracurricular activities, Matthew is thriving academically and socially.

The positive impact of Missions of Hope International is evident in the transformation of this family. With Matthew's education and his mother's training, their dreams are becoming a reality.
