Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Grace* is a 15 year old girl and currently in kindergarten at Missions of Hope Olturot Center. Grace is the second born in a family of six siblings, raised in a very humble background. She lives with her mother who has not been able to find employment. Her life changed when her father passed away, while protecting their home from cattle rustlers back in 2015. They lost a significant number of livestock; which is a primary source of livelihood in the community.

Before Grace joined our Olturot Center, she spent most of her days grazing the few sheep that her family owned. As is customary in the community for women to be married young, soon Grace became of age and her family began to make arrangements. A MOHI social worker caught wind of the plans to marry her off to an older man from the community. Although all the traditional preparations for the ceremony were already underway, the social worker took a bold step and enlightened Grace’s mother on the dangers of early marriage.

The social worker engaged with the family, educating them on the benefits of education for young girls compared to early marriages. After several follow ups, Grace expressed interest in joining school. Her mother soon agreed to cancel the wedding and instead Grace joined school for the very first time. Thanks to MOHI, Grace was rescued from early marriage.

MOHI's intervention prevented an early marriage and harmful traditional practices that would have deprived Grace of an education and the chance to decide what kind of future she wants for herself. We thank God for Grace’s transformation and the positive impact MOHI has had on her life.

Term Highlights

  • 37 of our students gave their lives to Christ and then attended the new believers' class and chose to be baptized afterward. Praise God!

  • Our Grade 6 students attended Angaza Discovery Camp this term! They had a magical time leaving their homes to travel across Kenya, see the Indian Ocean, and deepen their relationship with God.

  • We are so proud of our students who competed in the Kenya Primary School Sports Association competitions. Nine of our soccer players were chosen to play on the regional team representing our region at the county level.

Partner Connections

  • We are blessed to have Eastside Christian Church visit our center this term. Their team performed a medical check-up for our students. They also visited some of our students at home praying with them and getting to know them better.

Prayer Requests

  • Pray that we may receive rain in our area. This will ensure that there is pasture for the animals that our community relies on for their livelihood.

  • Pray with us as we pray for peace in the community we serve. Pray that the community members will live in harmony with their neighbors.

  • Pray for financial breakthrough for our parents so that they can continue providing for their children.
