Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Andrew* is a cook at MOHI’s Olturot Center. He comes from one of the most disadvantaged communities in the Marsabit region.

Before connecting with MOHI, Andrew struggled with drug addiction. He had become irresponsible, often neglecting his wife and children. His behavior made him lose respect in his community, and he lived a life filled with conflict and regret.

Andrew first encountered MOHI through the regular home visits conducted by our social workers. During one such home visit, his two sons were enrolled in MOHI’s program. Today, those boys are thriving in fifth and sixth grades.

At that time, Andrew’s home life was in turmoil. He often fought with his family, and peace felt impossible. Recognizing his potential, the social workers decided to walk alongside him, offering encouragement, guidance, and hope. He had never attended church and had little interest in faith. But as he continued to receive mentorship and support, we began to witness a remarkable transformation.

With MOHI’s intervention and God’s grace, Andrew gradually broke free from drug addiction and substance abuse. Today, it’s been two full years since he stopped using drugs. Even more inspiring, Andrew has given his life to Christ, and he now attends a local church, where he serves as an usher.

To help him continue on this new path, MOHI offered Andrew a job as a cook. Since then, his life has changed drastically. He is now respected by his community, lives peacefully with his family, and provides for them with pride and consistency.

Andrew’s story has become a source of hope for others. He often shares his experience to inspire and encourage those who are still struggling. He has proved that nothing is impossible to change.
