Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Chacha’s* story is one of courage and transformation. She grew up in instability and domestic violence. After years of abuse, her mother fled with her to a nearby village, but her father eventually forced them back home. Life became even harsher, and Chacha was made to herd goats at a very young age. When punished repeatedly for losing the animals, she finally ran away in search of safety.

Her escape led her through bushes and mountains, where she wandered barefoot, hungry, and frightened. During this time, she experienced significant trauma and rejection, leaving her deeply wounded and withdrawn. Desperation drove her to steal, making the residents brand her as a thief and subjecting her to violent beatings. Terrified and rejected, she retreated into the wilderness, hiding from people and moving mainly at night.

Chacha was eventually found by some local community members and brought to a Missions of Hope (MOHI) Namarei Center for protection. When she arrived, the 17-year-old girl looked extremely malnourished, unable to speak clearly and too weak to eat solid food. She was taken into a safe staff residence and received medical care and counseling. As she stabilized, MOHI sought her mother’s consent, and once granted, Chacha was officially enrolled in the program and joined preschool. Despite everything she had endured, she quickly became one of the top performers in her class.

When the school term ended, efforts were made to safely reconnect her with her family. But Chacha did not feel safe and ran away again on the very first day. Given her fragile emotional state, she has been returned to the school’s care and now lives with the Deputy Head Teacher, who temporarily paused her own leave to ensure Chacha receives stability and support. Chacha is slowly rediscovering her self-worth and rebuilding her hope for the future.

Her journey from uncertainty, fear, and abandonment to academic success is a powerful testimony to renewed hope. Her story highlights not just her strength, but also the life-changing impact of Missions of Hope International. Thank you for your love and partnership. Together, we are multiplying the hope of Christ to many other children like Chacha.
