Hope Transforms: A Success Story
Hellen* comes from a humble family in a small village in Kargi. She is the youngest child in a family raised by a single mother. Her father passed away many years ago. Her mother struggled to support the family after a drought killed all their goats, their primary source of income.
During a home visit, a social worker met her; a young girl from the village who had never attended school. Hellen was withdrawn but still shared her difficult life experiences. She had spent her life tending to animals. Hellen narrated to the social worker what had been going on in the last few years.
One of Hellen's aunts promised to take her to school in a different county. However, upon arrival, Hellen was forced into domestic servitude, caring for her aunt's children and doing household chores. Her aunt neglected her education and dismissed her desire to attend school.
Disheartened, Hellen returned home to Kargi. Another aunt offered to take her to school in a different town. Unfortunately, the same pattern repeated, with Hellen forced into domestic labor and denied educational opportunities.
Hellen's experiences left her deeply unhappy and disillusioned. She yearned for an education and pleaded with her aunt to fulfill her promise. When her aunt refused, Hellen insisted on returning home to Kargi, so her aunt reluctantly agreed to let her go.
After hearing Hellen's story the social worker knew that they had to intervene. They helped her enroll in our Kargi Center. Despite initial shyness and being the oldest student in her class, Hellen quickly adapted and excelled. She was elected class president and consistently performed well academically.
Hellen's spiritual growth has also been significant. She has developed a strong faith in God and encourages her younger classmates to trust in Him. She often says, "Nothing is impossible with God."
Hellen's determination and hard work have led to her acceleration to Grade 3 pretty quickly. She is grateful for the opportunity to attend school and is committed to achieving her goals. We pray that God will continue to bless her as she pursues her education.
