Hope Transforms: A Success Story
Henry*, a Grade 9 student at Kangagetei Center, was once part of a group of boys notorious for causing trouble in their community. They engaged in unruly behavior, often disrupting classes, disrespecting authority, and engaging in activities that brought concern to both teachers and parents. Despite repeated efforts by his class teacher to discipline and mentor him, Henry continued down a wayward path, influenced by his peers and the thrill of mischief.
One fateful day, while wandering around with his friends, they stumbled upon a motorbike parked unattended by the roadside. Driven by curiosity and the desire for adventure, they decided to test it. To their surprise, the motorbike started. Excited by their unexpected success, they took off, riding recklessly without considering the consequences. However, their adventure soon turned tragic when they lost control and crashed. The accident left them severely injured, requiring immediate hospitalization.
This unfortunate event became a life-altering moment. While recovering from his injuries in the hospital, he had ample time to reflect on his actions and the path he had chosen. During his hospitalization, a MOHI social worker visited him regularly, offering words of encouragement and guidance. These interactions planted the seeds of change in his heart. Through continuous individual counseling sessions, he began to understand the importance of responsibility, discipline, and the impact of his choices on his future.
As Henry gradually regained his health, he also started to rebuild his life. Upon returning to school, he made a conscious effort to turn over a new leaf. He embraced positive values and distanced himself from negative influences. Recognizing the transformation, his teachers and fellow students encouraged him to take on leadership roles. He began leading prayers during morning devotions, a practice that strengthened his faith and moral compass. His commitment to self-improvement earned him a position in the school’s student council, where he was entrusted with the responsibility of guiding other students.
Beyond his behavior, Henry also made significant strides in his academic performance. Once an indifferent student, he now approached his studies with determination and enthusiasm. His grades improved remarkably, and he developed a newfound passion for learning, particularly in the sciences. Inspired by the doctors who treated him during his hospital stay, he set his sights on becoming a doctor—a dream that now fuels his dedication and hard work.
Henry strives towards his dream of becoming a doctor, believing wholeheartedly that with God's guidance, he will achieve his goals.
