Hope Transforms: A Success Story
Olivia*, a bright and determined 10th grader at Joska Girls High School, lives in Mathare Area 2 with her mom, who is a tailor and her biggest supporter. Olivia is her mother’s only child, and although life has brought its share of challenges, her mom has always done her best to provide and encourage her.
Olivia began her academic journey at Joska Primary School, where she completed her primary education in 2022. Though she struggled at times, she remained committed to her studies and consistently sought help from her teachers who encouraged her to keep going. After graduating, she briefly joined a non-MOHI high school, but soon realized how much she missed the supportive, nurturing environment she had known. She reached out to her social worker and asked if she could transfer to Joska Girls High School, a MOHI school, where she felt seen, known, and cared for. She was welcomed back without hesitation.
Since then, Olivia’s academic performance has greatly improved. Now in Grade 10, she dreams of becoming a flight attendant and hopes to one day join the national women’s basketball team. She’s already making strides toward those goals, she serves as captain of the basketball team and as the school’s deputy games captain.
Olivia’s spiritual journey began in 7th grade when she gave her life to Christ. After going through discipleship classes, she joined the praise and worship team and was baptized in August 2023. Today, she serves as the head usher in the school chapel, where she welcomes guests, oversees hospitality, and helps steward the Sunday offerings before they’re handed over to the school accountant.
Being part of MOHI has given Olivia the confidence and support she needed to grow into the strong, well-rounded young woman she is today. She continues to inspire her peers, both academically and spiritually, and we’re so thankful to God for the transformation in her life.

Term Highlights
- This term, our teachers received specialized training from subject experts and national examiners. These sessions helped sharpen their skills and better prepare students for upcoming national tests.
- Our girls also had an exciting term in co-curricular activities, participating in basketball, handball, hockey, and athletics. We especially celebrate our athletics team for advancing to the regional level! Thanks to the dedication of our coaches, the students have grown in self-confidence, discipline, and self-esteem.
- The Science Club represented our school at the county level for the second time, and it was a great success. We are proud of how our girls are developing the skills and confidence to compete with students from other schools. Their improved attitudes toward science has led to stronger academic performance in the subject.
- We also launched the I Am Enough program this term. Every other Wednesday, our girls gather for sessions with mentors and spiritual leaders. These times have been incredibly impactful, helping the girls grow in identity, faith, and purpose.
Partner Connections
- We were blessed to welcome the Rottinghaus and McCain families for a Sunday service. It was a joy to worship and fellowship with them.
- Mike and Jill Shuck visited our center as well, each leading a specialized training session. Mike facilitated an empowerment training, while Jill led a catering workshop. We are deeply grateful for their continued love and support.
- A facilitator from ‘Farming God’s Way’ came to speak with students, agriculture teachers, farm attendants from Joska and Ndovoini high schools, and community members. His session was both inspiring and informative—everyone left equipped and eager to implement what they learned.
- Our girls were especially excited to host Valley Christian Church for a Sunday service, school tour, and lunch. It was a meaningful cultural exchange and a joyful time of connection and learning for everyone involved.
- We also had the joy of hosting teams from Amity and Dayton Christian Churches. They spent quality time fellowshipping with our staff and students, creating lasting memories and deepening the partnership we cherish so much.
Prayer Requests
- Please pray for good health and continued provision for our students.
- Pray for every unsponsored child at our school to receive sponsorship—we are trusting God for 100% sponsorship!
- Lift up our staff in prayers as they serve faithfully, working to bring lasting transformation to the children and families in Joska.
- Pray for our other partners who continue to show love and generosity to MOHI families. May God bless them with good health, long life, and abundant joy.
