Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Purity* is a bright 7-year-old and a second-grade student at Missions of Hope Coram Deo Center. She joined the school in 2022 as a kindergartener and is the youngest of three siblings.

Purity lives with her mother in a small two-room home. Her mom, a single parent, worked as a casual farm laborer, often struggling to earn enough to cover the family’s basic needs. At times, they didn’t have enough food, and life felt overwhelming. Purity would stay home alone while her mom worked, sometimes with nothing to eat and missing the chance to be in school.

During a home visit, one of our social workers met Purity’s mother and listened as she shared her challenges. She deeply wanted her daughter to get an education, but didn’t have the means to make it happen.

The social worker introduced her to MOHI’s Economic Empowerment program, and she quickly joined. Through the program, she began saving, which would enable her to take out a small loan when needed. Purity was then enrolled in our Coram Deo Center.

Today, Purity is thriving. She loves learning and enjoys the nutritious meals she receives at school each day. Her mother has since found a job working at a local hotel and is continuing to save through the empowerment program. Her goal is to take out another loan to start her own business and create a more stable future for her family.

This is the power of partnership—meeting families where they are and walking alongside them as they pursue lasting transformation.
