In a very festive event, more than 80 children living with disabilities in the Mathare Valley community, along with their parents and caregivers, gathered to dance, eat, and celebrate their blessings. The Shine Dance Event, organized by MOHI and Christ’s Church of the Valley (Peoria, AZ), honored the children, brought families together, provided encouragement, and showed them appreciation for their resilience.
The festivities featured lively songs, spirited dance performances, and a sumptuous feast tailored for our special guests. The children were dressed as princes and princesses and participated in dance and fashion competitions. Speakers took the stage to highlight MOHI's ongoing efforts and future plans to support both the children and their caregivers. The aim was to instill hope within the community, reassuring parents that their children can thrive and reach their fullest potential. Moreover, the event played a crucial role in combating the stigma and shame, found in the Mathare Valley community, associated with raising a child living with disabilities and facilitating meaningful belonging for all.
As the day came to a close, each family departed with a food basket brimming with provisions, enough to sustain them for three weeks.
