Greetings from Napuu!

Greetings! I am thrilled to share the highlights of our first term of this year at Napuu Center. Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we strive to make a difference in the lives of our community through education,

Ben Kibe
Head Teacher, Napuu

Flood Update:

Since this Community Update was written before the extreme rain and flooding took place in Kenya, we want to provide a quick update.

Despite the heavy rains, we are thankful to report that neither our center nor the students we serve were directly affected. We did not experience the flooding that other areas were subject to.

If you'd like to donate to MOHI's flood relief efforts, you can donate here.

Term 1, 2024 Stats

Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Meet Victor*, a resilient 16-year-old born in Kerio, far from Lodwar. Victor's journey began as a herdsboy, entrusted to relatives by his mother. Meanwhile, the mother struggled to raise Victor's two sisters and a brother alone after their father's departure.

In Turkana tradition, children often embrace pastoral life from a young age, disconnected from formal education. Victor's fate seemed sealed until his mother's encounter with one of our social workers. Initially hesitant, she enrolled her daughters, Kate* and Lauren*, while Victor continued herding.

The social worker knew that Victor would also benefit from an education. While Lauren and Kate were in school Victor's mother began to see the benefits of an education. Their family social worker often visited and encouraged Victor’s mother to also enroll Victor in school. Soon she agreed and Victor joined our Napuu Center.

Though Victor had not been in school, he thrived at our Center. He excelled in his academics as well as in co-curricular activities. As Victor neared junior secondary school his mother worried about being able to afford the things that Victor needed to join as well as Kate and Lauren. His social workers knew that Victor would need all the help he could get. MOHI provided Victor with all that he needed to join junior secondary. Now fully settled into school he can pursue his dream of becoming an engineer.

Grateful for MOHI’s intervention, Victor's determination to succeed inspires his siblings and those around him. Although he is much older than his classmates and in the same grade as his younger siblings, he is undeterred and sees it as an opportunity, not a setback. We thank God for Victor and for all the progress that he has made.
