Hope Transforms: A Success Story
In the crowded alleys of Madoya, an informal urban settlement in Nairobi, 11-year-old Tony*, a Grade 4 student, lived with his parents and siblings. Life was tough. Their parents worked casual jobs and struggled to make ends meet. Each day felt like a battle against poverty and uncertainty.
Tony’s life took a turn when a MOHI social worker met his family during a home visit, and Tony was later enrolled in the MOHI program. Through MOHI, Tony got a chance to join school, where he not only received quality Christian education but also nutritious meals and a safe place to dream.
When Tony fell ill, and his parents could not afford treatment, the MOHI health clinic provided free consultation and medication. This was also evident when Tony was involved in a road accident that almost claimed his life. After being discharged, his parents had already been financially drained and could not afford everything they needed. They would take him to our Pangani clinic for regular checkups. The consistent support made Tony regain his health and hope.
During Tony’s recovery process, his mother lost her job. She had to take most of her time caring for his son. The father also faced financial challenges after spending all their savings on medical expenses. To help stabilize the family, Tony’s mother joined our empowerment group, where she received business training and a loan that she used to start a fish-selling business. This income helped them meet daily needs.
Today, Tony is healthy, hopeful, and thriving in school. He dreams of becoming a doctor so he can help children in his community. Through MOHI’s pillars of education, health, spiritual growth, and empowerment, Tony’s story is a true reflection of the transformative power of the hope of Christ.

Term Highlights
- Our soccer team participated in the soccer league at Baba Dogo Center and won several matches. Winning in those competitions boosted their self-esteem as they realized that they are equal to other students out there.
- Our Grade 6 and 9 students completed their national assessments. We are really proud of all of them.
- One hundred and six students from our center attended the grand Ignite program, where they were deeply inspired and encouraged in their faith. The event seeks to deepen our students’ faith.
- Our school continues to thrive spiritually and academically through guidance and counseling programs. We have seen meaningful growth in students’ overall performance.
Church Highlights
- We held revival meetings and conducted door-to-door evangelism, reaching out to over 500 community members. Over 30 of those gave their lives to Christ, and some have joined our church.
- We baptized over 50 new converts, 23 of whom were our students who attended Angaza Discovery Camp (MOHI’s two-week intensive discipleship camp on the Kenyan coast for all sixth graders). We thank God for the continued transformation of lives.
- Our pastors attended MOHI pastoral training to equip them to work with increased effectiveness. This training was a blessing to the whole church.
- We conducted prayers for our Grade 6 and 9 students, where parents and teachers attended. We prayed for their success in the national tests, and we believe they’ll all perform exemplary.
Partner Connections
- We were pleased to welcome Rocky Mountain Christian Church (Niwot, CO) to our center this term. They led a VBS program for all our students, focusing on helping them know God more deeply. The children enjoyed Bible stories, crafts, and games throughout the week. Our sponsored students also had a wonderful time on a field trip with their sponsors.
Prayer Requests
- Pray for the good health of our staff, students, and their families.
- Pray for financial breakthroughs for the families we serve and the community at large, so they can take care of their families well.
- Pray for the sponsorship of all unsponsored students in our center.
