Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Mark*, a bright-eyed, seven-year-old Grade 2 student at Korogocho Nyayo, has come a long way in the past two years. Living with his single mother, life wasn't always easy. When Mark was in kindergarten, he was diagnosed with malnutrition when MOHI’s medical team visited the school and assessed our students. He was assessed and put on special supplements for six months to combat the malnutrition.

Mark’s social worker was determined to ensure that Mark's health improved not just from the support that he received in school but at home as well. His social worker provided support through regular home visits, guidance, and Community Health Education (CHE) sessions. Mark's mother was empowered and began saving money from her casual job to ensure Mark received a balanced diet at home, complementing the healthy diet he receives at school.

The results have been remarkable. Mark is now active and happy. His health has improved dramatically, and it shows in his bright smile and energetic spirit. He is able to concentrate better in class and as a result his grades are getting better.

But that's not all. Mark's mother also embraced a new path, finding faith and becoming a born-again Christian. She now attends church regularly in Kariobangi with her children, further strengthening their family bond.

Mark's story is a testament to the power of community support, education, and healthcare. It's a reminder that even in the face of adversity, there's always hope for a brighter future. We are so proud of Mark and his mother's progress, and we're committed to continuing our work to empower families and create a healthier, happier community.
