Hope Transforms: A Success Story
Spensa* is a bright and determined young girl whose journey with Missions of Hope International began when she joined Joska Center in Grade 6. She is the third-born among six siblings, and together with her family, they live at Joska. Her father works as a casual laborer, and the family often struggles to meet their daily needs.
Despite the many challenges at home, Spensa remained focused and performed exceptionally well in her Grade 8 exit test. She was overjoyed when she received an admission letter to one of Kenya's top high schools. However, even though MOHI helped cover her tuition, other unavoidable challenges arose, and eventually she was released from the school.
In 2024, MOHI learned that Spensa was out of school. They reached out to her parents and invited them to bring Spensa to Joska for admission. She was welcomed warmly into the school community.
This marked a new beginning for Spensa. She embraced the opportunity with gratitude, choosing to let go of her past struggles and focus on her faith and education. Through the encouragement of teachers and the support of caring friends, Spensa regained her confidence and began to excel once again.
Now, Spensa is in twelfth grade and has sat for her high school exit tests. Her dream is to join a university and pursue a course in teaching in order to impact lives just as MOHI has impacted hers.
We thank God for the remarkable transformation in Spensa’s life. Her story is a true testimony of God’s grace and the transformative power of education. She is a symbol of hope to her family, and we believe that through her, many lives will be changed.

Term Highlights
- We celebrated Mazingira (Environmental) day, a national holiday that encourages citizens to serve others and care for the environment. Our students participated in cleanup activities in the school and the community. They also planted flowers to beautify the school environment.
- Our scouts made us proud when they were nominated as the best scouts in the county in neatness, presentability, and drills. We bless the Lord for the gifts upon our students.
- All the staff participated in mental health training to promote wellness and ensure they can provide the best support to the students and communities.
- We carried out a spiritual training program, focusing on transforming lives through the hope of Christ. The program included morning and evening devotions, midweek and Sunday services, prayer and fasting sessions, sports outreach programs, revival meetings and discipleship classes. Sixty-six participants graduated.
- We conducted a worship experience that brought together all staff, students and the three Outreach Hope (MOHI church plant) Churches in our region.
- As part of preparing our Grade 12 students for the Mnara Program (Mnara means ‘pillar.’ A MOHI program that empowers twelfth-grade graduates during their gap year), we held mentorship sessions that outlined clear expectations and goals.
Church Highlights
- We held a worship experience where a total of 1,400 students participated. It was a powerful time of spiritual nourishment, and three students gave their lives to Jesus.

Partner Connections
- We were blessed to host the Africa Fire Mission (Cincinnati, OH) team at Joska. The team conducted leadership training for staff, trained students, assessed fire safety in the dormitory, and concluded with a fire evacuation drill. The training greatly enhanced fire safety awareness and measures for both students and staff.
- First Christian Church (Santa Maria, CA) team joined us for a Sunday service, school orientation, and shared lunch with the Joska leadership team. They were inspired by how God is transforming lives at Joska Center. We are grateful for the fellowship and encouragement their visit brought.

They attended Sunday worship and interacted with our students. The team witnessed firsthand the transformation taking place at Joska, making the visit truly memorable.
