Merta is one of our staff members who works as a cook at our Namarei Center. He holds the distinction of being the center’s first cook, having joined upon its inception in 2021.
Merta and his family live in a manyatta (collection of traditional huts) located not far from the school and he says part of the reason he loves his job is because it is very near his home. Before joining MOHI, Merta worked at a ranch that was very far away from home and he would go for months without seeing his family.
“I really hated being so far away from my family, but there was really nothing I could do about it. The money enabled me to provide for them, but I really missed them. So, when this opportunity presented itself it was like an answer to prayer. I get to be home, see my children grow and I am also able to provide for them.” he says.
Merta has two boys who are enrolled at the Namarei Center in the kindergarten class and he has three older children - two girls and a boy - who attend a nearby public primary school.
“I thank God that MOHI made it possible for me to be home with my children,” he says smiling broadly.
Merta is just one of the community members who have benefited greatly from MOHI’s presence in the area. He is a hard worker who reports to work every day without fail and expertly manages the affairs of the kitchen.
As he continues to participate in the staff devotions and other spiritual programs at the school, it is our prayer that Merta will experience the transformative love of Christ and give his life to Him.
We invite you to join us as we pray for other community members that they too, just like Merta, will be impacted by MOHI’s presence in their region. Also, prayerfully consider partnering with us as we work to bring the hope of Christ to disadvantaged communities in Kenya.
