“I Am Glad to Be a Part of MOHI”: A Father’s Story of Faith and Transformation

By MOHI on Sep 2, 2025 8:15:00 AM

As MOHI celebrates 25 years of ministry, we are recognizing parents who have been part of the MOHI family for many years. One such story is that of Makenzi, a devoted father, a committed servant with Christian Missionary Fellowship (CMF), and a proud member of the MOHI family.

Makenzi first learned about MOHI over a decade ago when he met MOHI’s founders during a training session. From that day forward, in many different ways, he became part of the ministry’s work.

“MOHI is doing a good job in helping the community. It is very evident because, every time I take a stroll within Mathare slums, I usually see how happy and eager these children are to go to school,” says Makenzi.

MOHI is doing a good job in helping the community. It is very evident because, every time I take a stroll within Mathare slums, I usually see how happy and eager these children are to go to school.

MOHI has become a haven and refuge for children from the informal settlements of Mathare, a place they call home. These children face extremely harsh conditions: little or no food, poor housing, and financial struggles that make quality education seem out of reach. Many also deal with deep emotional burdens caused by the challenges they face at home.

But within MOHI’s walls, they find safety, love, and the opportunity to grow spiritually and academically, along with the comfort of at least two hot meals every school day.MOHI@25-Makenzi

“MOHI has transformed my life by lifting off my financial burdens. Not only did this organization give me a job to improve my livelihood, but it has also given my children a chance to get affordable, quality Christian education. I no longer have to worry about my children being sent out of school due to fee balances that I cannot afford.”

Two of Makenzi’s children have studied at MOHI, one enrolled in Grade 4 at Ndovoini and the other in Grade 6 at Joska. In both centers, they received the same care and guidance, shaping their spiritual, academic, and personal growth.

“One thing I really appreciate about MOHI is how they have instilled discipline in my children. It is very easy to identify someone who has studied or worked at MOHI just by how well they carry themselves.”

The Bible studies, devotions, and Christian teachings at MOHI have helped instill strong values in students and staff alike, something Makenzi sees as a key part of what makes MOHI unique.

As MOHI celebrates its 25th anniversary, Makenzi hopes the ministry will continue its work for generations to come. He remembers the emotional and financial struggles he faced before MOHI stepped into his life, and how the morning devotions and supportive team around him helped him grow into the man he is today.

To Makenzi, MOHI’s growth has been nothing short of inspiring.

“The huge MOHI buildings you see today did not exist back then. It was just a tiny bungalow that used to look like a private home. But we serve a gracious God who has elevated MOHI from its humble beginnings, and it is now an international organization serving thousands of families and communities.”

Grateful for the transformation he has witnessed, both in his own family and in the lives of countless others, Makenzi says, “I am glad to be a part of MOHI, and I thank the organization for believing in me to take part in transforming the lives of children, who are the future of tomorrow.”

I am glad to be a part of MOHI, and I thank the organization for believing in me to take part in transforming the lives of children, who are the future of tomorrow.

As we look back on 25 years of God’s faithfulness, we invite you to join us in celebrating the stories of transformation that God has written through MOHI. Together, let’s give thanks for the past, rejoice in what He is doing today, and pray for the next 25 years of ministry to impact even more children, families, and communities.
