Hope Transforms: A Success Story
Ruth* has been a beneficiary of the Missions of Hope International program since the year 2016, when she joined in Grade 4. She lost her mother at the age of six and has been under the care of an aunt. She has a brother and two sisters. Her elder sister dropped out of school due to a lack of financial support, while her youngest sister is in Grade 10 at Turkana High School.
After Ruth’s mother passed on, her father, who had other wives, moved on with his life, with no care for Ruth and her siblings. The loss of their mother greatly affected them since they had to be raised in separate homes and had little to no contact with one another until recently. Each of them faced major challenges that hindered their educational journey, including financial instability and inconsistent parental support.
Ruth’s family was introduced to MOHI through a family friend who connected them with a MOHI social worker. After an assessment, Ruth and her sister were enrolled in the program. MOHI ensured that Ruth stayed in school and successfully completed her high school diploma last year. Despite the emotional and financial challenges, Ruth remains determined and hopes for a better future. She appreciates the help MOHI has given her, as all of this would not have been possible without it.
Ruth has consistently demonstrated discipline, gratitude and academic determination throughout her schooling. Currently, she has joined a college to pursue a Diploma in Social Work and Community Development. Ruth is now able to continue her studies and follow her dream of helping others.
Ruth’s transformation is not limited to education. She has also witnessed spiritual growth. She is now more active in faith-related activities, consistent in prayer and demonstrates inner peace, forgiveness and compassion towards others, qualities that were once difficult for her to embrace. This transformation has allowed her to grow both emotionally and socially.
