Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Charles* joined Turi High School as a Grade 9 student. He comes from one of the Nairobi slums and is the last-born in a family of four. Before joining our school, he struggled with peer pressure. Back in Nairobi, he had joined a group of boys who often got into trouble, which kept his parents worried.

His transformation journey started immediately after he joined our school, away from Nairobi. During his studies, he discovered his passion for agriculture. Through the practical study activities, he found something that interested him. He joined the Young Farmers’ Club, became an active member and eventually was appointed as the club’s chairman. He has been able to influence other students to carry out agricultural projects within the school. Under his leadership, the club started rearing chickens and rabbits as well as growing vegetables that supply the school kitchen.

Inspired by the school projects, Charles decided to apply the skills he acquired at home. He began rearing rabbits and chickens at his home. Today, he raises 132 rabbits and 172 chickens! What began as a school project has now grown into an agribusiness venture. The business has not interfered with his studies, but rather supports him financially through the sale of his animals.

Charles’ transformation does not stop at that! He has developed a heart of service. He actively participates in community programs that support people with disabilities, demonstrating the same dedication and compassion that he brings to his farm work.

We thank God for the transformation we have seen in his life and the promising future that he is now focused on.
