Flood Update:

Since this Community Update was written before the extreme rain and flooding took place in Kenya, we want to provide a quick update.

Despite the heavy rains, we are thankful to report that neither our center nor the students we serve were directly affected. We did not experience the flooding that other areas were subject to.

If you'd like to donate to MOHI's flood relief efforts, you can donate here.

Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Frida*, the second of five siblings, embarked on her high school journey at Turi High School with hopes and dreams, yet burdened by the weight of past struggles. Amidst the challenges, her journey became a testament to resilience, faith, and the power of mentorship.

Frida's journey began in the Madoya community, where lots of vices can easily be used to distract someone from their struggles. Disheartened by her end-of-primary school education test results, which fell short of her expectations, Frida found herself ensnared in a cycle of despair and self-doubt. Seeking solace, she sought refuge in the company of peers who offered fleeting reprieves through substance abuse.

However, amidst the darkness, a glimmer of hope emerged as Frida crossed paths with mentors at Missions of Hope Turi High School. Through counseling sessions and mentorship programs, she found the strength to confront her struggles and rewrite her narrative. Guided by a newfound sense of purpose, Frida embarked on a journey of self-discovery.

She agreed to join our high school, where she decided to start anew. With each passing day, Frida shed the shackles of her past, emerging as a beacon of hope and inspiration for her peers. Empowered by the love and support of her school community, she embraced the challenge of overcoming adversity with unwavering determination. Frida's transformation reverberated beyond the confines of her personal journey, touching the lives of those around her.
