Hope Transforms: A Success Story
Luis* is a 9-year-old boy from Shambini, a small village in Kwale County, in the coastal region of Kenya. He lives with his single mother and two brothers, who attend a different school.
Luis joined our school in February after a follow-up by the head teacher and the social worker. Although he was already on the list of beneficiaries, he was not attending school. His mother explained that she could not even afford the smallest costs to help her son go to school. The social worker made sure that Luis was enrolled in school.
At first, he was very quiet, even from the students who knew him. He also struggled academically. Writing numbers one to ten was a huge task. But with time, support, and encouragement, Luis began to thrive. Today, he is one of the top students in our Grade 3 class. He attends school daily, and his academic performance has been remarkable.
Luis`s mother now runs a small business where she cooks in a kibanda (a roadside kiosk), which allows her to support her son. The family is deeply grateful for the sponsorship program at MOHI. They have seen God’s provision through the gifts and support Luis receives from his sponsor, and they say a heartfelt “thank you” for the transformation it has brought to their lives.
