Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Tim* is the youngest in a family with three siblings. He currently lives with his mother, Maria in the Pangani community. His two older brothers are in Grades 5 and 8 at our school. Their mother works as a casual laborer and earns a very low and inconsistent income, making it difficult for her to provide adequate support for the family. The parents separated, and their father stopped supporting them.

Maria kept the two older boys, but Tim, at only 2 years of age, was taken away by his father. The father placed Tim in the care of his brother, who lived in a different region away from the mother. Tim’s mother was denied access to her son. Her brother-in-law even changed Tim's last name and painted a negative picture of his mother to Tim, discouraging him from meeting her.

This prolonged separation caused significant emotional pain for Maria. Determined to reunite with her son, she sought legal assistance with the help of her family and well-wishers. In April this year, the court ruled in favor of Maria, and Tim, her son, was officially reunited with his biological mother. Before reuniting with his mother, Tim had been attending a rural school. Now, back with his mother and siblings in Pangani, he has enrolled at our MOHI school to continue his education.

With the help of their family social worker from MOHI, Tim received a month of therapy through MOHI’s Counsellors. His mother and brothers also participated in family counseling sessions to help them reconnect and rebuild trust.

MOHI has played a crucial role in the well-being of this family. The mother now feels at peace, knowing that her children are safe, receiving quality Christian education, two meals each school day, and are in a positively nurturing environment. She can go to work each day without worry.

Being part of MOHI has impacted Tim and his siblings both spiritually and emotionally. Tim has made remarkable progress. He is now cheerful, more expressive, and happy to be back in school and with his family.

  • We participated in various co-curricular activities including ball games, music and indoor games. We are proud of our music club that came second in the regional Kenya Music Festival and will compete in national competitions.
  • One hundred and nine Grade 6 students had the opportunity to go to MOHI’s Angaza Discovery Camp this term. The students had a great time at the coast where they enjoyed the beauty of God's creation and also enjoyed swimming in the Indian ocean among other beach activities. During that time, thirty-two students gave their lives to Christ.

  • This term, we baptized 22 people! Among these were some of the students who gave their lives to Christ while at Angaza Discovery Camp.
  • Our church organized a synergy Sunday that brought our students, staff and community members for a worship service. More than 160 people attended that service.
  • The Outreach Hope Church Pangani held a children’s ministry graduation for six adult members after training them on how to serve in the children’s ministry.
  • We had an ordination service in which 11 people were ordained into various ministries. A new pastor for the church was also ordained during that service, which was attended by over 200 people.

  • We were blessed to have a team from Mountain Christian Church visit us this term. They conducted VBS for over 800 students, teaching them about trusting God. The students had a great time learning Bible stories, making crafts and playing games. The students further enjoyed the snacks, and more students were sponsored during this visit.
  • We welcomed a team from Christ’s Church of the Valley (CCV), who conducted a community health and eye clinic.
  • We hosted a team from Generations Christian Church, and they conducted a dental medical camp at the Pangani clinic, where community members and MOHI staff had the opportunity to receive these much-needed services.
  • We also hosted a team from the West Side Christian Church who made bookshelves for several of our classes.
  • Other teams that visited included: Chino Valley Christian Church, Crossroads Christian Church, Southpointe Christian Church, among others. The warm moments we shared with the teams, the smiles, the stories, and the home and classroom visits were so impactful and cherishable.

  • Pray for continued good health among our students, the community and staff members.
  • Pray for the 109 Grade 6 and the 80 Grade 9 students who are preparing for the national tests scheduled for October.
  • Pray for our students, especially those in junior high school, who are struggling with behavioral challenges and peer influences.
