Greetings from Nyakach!

Hello! We give thanks to God for His faithfulness and for the wonderful opportunity to continue serving the Nyakach community. As we come to the end of the term, we are excited to share some of the term's highlights.

Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Kennedy*, a Grade 7 student, comes from one of the small villages surrounding Missions of Hope Nyakach Center. He has been living with his father since his parents separated. However, when his father fell ill, he ended up under the care of his grandmother, who has been his guardian ever since.

Though Kennedy is naturally polite and quiet, peer pressure affected him negatively. He became rebellious and hardly listened to his grandmother’s instructions. During school breaks, he would run away from home in search of jobs. He often took on jobs like herding cattle. Sometimes he would stay away even after school resumed, and it was only after his grandmother sought help from the local authorities that he was brought back.

The family social worker intervened, and through guidance and counseling from the school pastor, Kennedy has changed tremendously. His relationship with his grandmother has grown stronger. He attends school regularly, and his academic performance has greatly improved. He actively participates in class and is more confident. His teachers speak highly of his changed behavior.

We thank God for the change in Kennedy’s life and continue to pray that he will stay on the right path and continue growing into the responsible young man God is shaping him to be. Now, Kennedy has a promising future full of hope!

  • We conducted a successful graduation ceremony for our kindergarten students who will be advancing to Grade 1. The ceremony celebrated the students’ academic achievement.
  • We held a prayer session for our Grade 6 students who sat for their national tests. Teachers, students and their parents came together to pray for the success of these students.

  • We held a prayer service for our Grade 6 students. The prayers brought the teachers, students and their parents together as we prayed for the students’ success in their national tests.
  • We engaged with the parents on spiritual development of the students through our programs: Angaza Discovery Camp (MOHI’s two-week intensive discipleship camp at the Kenyan coast for all sixth graders), baptism, discipleship and mentorship.
  • Our Synergy Sunday service (a service that brings together students, staff and community members for worship, fellowship, and celebration of God’s goodness) was well attended. It was a fulfilling experience for all of us.
  • We conducted an open-air evangelism within the shopping center and marketplace. Many people were blessed by the word of God.

  • Pray that the candidates who sat for their national tests will pass with good grades.
  • Pray for transformation within the Nyakach community that families will grow stronger and that men will take a more active role in supporting and caring for their families.
