It has been a fruitful term marked by growth, commitment, and resilience from every member of our school community. Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Stephen* was born in the remote village of Napusimoru, in Turkana County. He comes from a pastoralist family of three children. His parents depend on livestock as their main source of livelihood. As the firstborn son, Stephen was expected to take care of the family’s goats since his parents did not see the need for formal education.

Stephen’s elder sister attends school at our Turkana High School, while his younger sister is in Grade 5 at our school.

Despite his family’s expectations, Stephen had a strong desire to go to school after hearing his friends talk about their learning experiences. When he tried to join a local school, he was turned away because his parents didn’t provide consent.

When our social workers learned about Stephen’s situation, they made a home visit, met with his parents and discussed the importance of education. Initially, his father refused, insisting that Stephen’s duty was to herd the family’s goats. The social worker continued to offer guidance and encouragement, helping the parents to understand how education could positively transform their son’s life and the entire family.

After two months, Stephen’s father returned to the social worker with a changed heart. He shared that Stephen had refused to herd the family goats because he wanted to attend school. Seeing his son’s determination, the father finally allowed him to start schooling.

In 2017, Stephen was officially enrolled in Grade 1 at our school. Since joining the school, Stephen has shown a remarkable transformation. He is hardworking, disciplined, and an excellent leader. His academic performance has been outstanding, making him one of the best students in his class.

In Grade 7, Stephen was chosen as the school captain for his good behavior, leadership skills, and respect for both teachers and fellow students. Outside school, Stephen also serves in church, where he plays the keyboard as part of his ministry. He recently sat for his national test and is looking forward to joining a senior secondary school in 2026.

Stephen’s story has brought great change not only to him but also to his family and community. His father, who once opposed his education, is now an active member of the school committee and a strong supporter of his son’s education. He now encourages other parents in the community to take their children to school, sharing how education has transformed his own family.

Stephen’s journey from a young herdsboy with no hope of education to one of the best student leaders in his school is a true testimony of courage, determination, and transformation. His story continues to inspire many children and parents in Napusimoru, proving that with persistence, guidance, and support, education truly changes lives.

• We had meaningful parent engagement this term, which played a critical role in our success. We held two well-attended Parent–Teacher Association meetings and made 32 targeted home visits through our social work team. These efforts helped strengthen partnership and accountability between the school and the community, leading to better student attendance, improved discipline, and increased motivation.
• We benefited from adequate staffing and stronger staff coordination, which enabled focused remedial sessions and improved curriculum coverage. Our teachers’ professional growth was further supported through MOHI’s training on the CBC (Competency-Based Curriculum), resulting in improved instructional quality and stronger student outcomes.
• We recorded solid academic performance, operational stability, and growing trust within the community. With continued support and collaboration from parents and staff, we are well-positioned to achieve even greater success in 2026 through improved teaching, stronger partnerships, and holistic student development.
  
  

• Three staff members from our Center attended a special needs training at our Napuu School conducted by Christ’s Church of the Valley Special Needs team (Peoria, AZ). The training aimed to improve inclusivity and strengthen support for students living with special needs.

• Pray for continued sponsorship of the unsponsored students.
• Pray for continued partnerships that will facilitate the smooth running of the school activities.
• Pray for the good health of our students, staff, and their families.
