Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Napusimoru means "blue hills and green skies," the area is named after the beauty of the landscape here. Though it is a beautiful place, the people here struggle to make ends meet. The students come from different villages; some are very far, but they make the journey to get an education because it's the only school around for miles.

In one of the surrounding villages, Iga*, who was a student at Napusimoru, decided to volunteer to teach the small kids who can't walk the long distance to school. She holds her little classes under a tree to shelter her and her students from the harsh heat.

Under this tree is where we find Safari*. Safari is eager to get his education, determined to one day become a teacher. If Safari does not go to school, he knows that there are few options for him in Napusimoru. The boys in the community end up in the fields taking care of the goats and sheep.

Safari's social worker arranged for Safari to be housed near the Napusimoru Center. The arrangement proved to be exactly what Safari needed. Being at our Napusimoru Center is different from studying under a tree. The four walls of his classroom provide shade from the harsh sun. He now has his own chair and desk that he can write on. Every day, he is given three meals, each packed with the nutrients he needs to grow and develop; he will need all the nutrients he can get so he can one day become a teacher.

Safari's health has greatly improved, and he now has the energy to play with his friends. He also has the freedom not to be expected to mature up so fast but instead play like little boys should and learn in school to determine their own future and choose their own paths.

We are so glad that we get to be a part of Safari's story. We can't wait to see what he becomes and how he chooses to transform his community when the time comes.

Term Highlights

  • We are very proud of our volleyball team! They competed in the Kenya Primary School Sports Association tournament at the zonal level for the first time. It was a great time of learning and showcasing their talents.

  • We are so excited about this term. We witnessed an increased number of kindergarten student enrollments. This is a good indicator that the community is now embracing education, something that was opposed in the past.

  • We have witnessed a high increase in the number of students despite most of our students coming from afar. They have preferred our center because of the good programs and services offered.

  • This term, we have also seen increased attendance among students. Thanks to our staff members who have been working towards sensitizing the community to accept education more.

Partner Connections

  • We were privileged to have a medical team from Eastside Christian Church. The team screened our students for various conditions and offered medical assistance. They also visited some of our students at home and even built homes for some families, changing their lives forever.

Prayer Requests

  • Pray for financial breakthroughs for our parents so that they can meet their daily needs.

  • Pray for good health among our students, staff, and parents. Thank God for all the students who received medical attention during the medical camp.

  • Pray for our community as they change their way of thinking toward education. Pray that those who are still trapped in retrogressive traditional practices see the importance of educating their children for the hope of a better tomorrow.
