Hope Transforms: A Success Story
Neema* is a 13 year old girl in Grade 5 at the Missions of Hope Mitangoni Center. She lives with her four siblings and their single mother. Most of the time, Neema and her siblings are cared for by their grandmother while their mother works as a housekeeper in the city.
Before MOHI came to the Mitangoni community, Neema attended a local primary school that was far from home, this made her miss classes often. Eventually, missing classes became a habit that she picked up.
When she first joined MOHI, this habit continued even though the school was not far from her home. She showed little interest in getting an education. This became a concern, so her social worker began checking in with her regularly, helping her understand the importance of education. Her class teacher also talked to Neema, encouraging her to have good attendance and encouraging her to improve her grades. Over time, Neema began attending school more regularly.
She soon got a sponsor who would send her gifts and birthday cakes on her birthday. She felt loved and considered. This really motivated her and boosted her confidence knowing that there is someone in a far place who thinks of her and wants her to succeed. Since then, she has never missed a day of school.
Neema dreams of becoming a doctor. Her teachers and social worker are committed to helping her achieve that goal by supporting her through her educational journey. She loves her English classes and sharpening her speaking and writing skills. We are so proud of Neema.
