Mathare North
Community Update - Term 1, 2026
Greetings from Mathare North!
Greetings from Mathare North Center. As we come to the end of the first term, we are glad to share a few highlights from our school and community. Thank you for your continued prayers and partnership.

Head Teacher, Mathare North
School Highlights
- Our junior high school students participated in public speaking and debate, where they practiced expressing their ideas clearly and building communication skills.
- Our mentorship program continued to encourage students through themes such as “Yes, We Can,” helping them develop a growth mindset.
- Parents, students, and teachers participated in an academic clinic after midterm. We pray this shared effort will support stronger learning at the center.
Church Highlights
- We held revival meetings and a Synergy Sunday service, which brought the community, staff, students, and families together for worship and fellowship. More than 500 people were reached, and five gave their lives to Christ.
- In partnership with MOHI’s Mabatini Center, we hosted an Ignite program for primary students. More than 150 Mathare North students attended, and 13 gave their lives to Christ.
- We launched a Married Couples Fellowship to create space for couples in the church to connect, discuss marriage topics, and encourage one another.
- We began a Sunday school nutrition initiative that provides children with a cup of porridge. Since the initiative began, attendance has grown from about 60 children to about 90.
A Story of Hope
Grace is a student who is known by her teachers as respectful and kind. She has often brought joy to her classroom and has been loved by her peers.
During the term, her teachers noticed that Grace had become withdrawn and was struggling in class. A follow-up from the social worker helped the school understand that her family had been walking through a painful and sensitive situation at home. For a time, Grace and her siblings needed extra care and support as the family worked through the challenges they were facing.
MOHI staff, including the social worker, deputy head teacher, and pastor, walked alongside the family through counseling, prayer, and continued encouragement. These conversations created space for the family to begin healing and rebuilding trust.
Over time, Grace began to regain confidence. She returned to a healthier routine at school, her academic performance improved, and her joy began to show again. Her family is also continuing to grow, and her father has decided to follow Christ.
Grace is now moving forward with renewed hope at school and at home. Her story reminds us that care, prayer, and patient support can help families take meaningful steps toward healing.
A different name has been used to honor privacy.
