Hope Transforms: A Success Story
Abigael* is a Grade 12 student at our center. She comes from a family of seven, and they live in the Mabatini community. They live with their single mother in a single-room house. At just 19 years old, Abigael is already a young mother to a 10-month-old son named Troy. Her mother does casual jobs and always struggles to make ends meet.
Growing up in Mabatini, a neighborhood characterized by high crime rates, drug abuse, and high school dropout rates, Abigael has defied the odds by choosing what is best for her education.
After sitting for her Grade 8 exit test, Abigael proceeded to high school in a nearby school and was later transferred to Mabatini High School. However, within the first term, she became pregnant. Initially, she was hesitant about returning to school, but with the support of our social workers and school principal, she received counseling and decided to resume her studies after giving birth.
After a successful delivery, Abigael nursed her baby for three months and later joined school. Currently, she takes her child to a daycare and then comes to school. Despite being a young teenage mother, she has not lost hope in education. She has already registered for the final high school exit test. She also received Jesus Christ and attends church regularly. In school, she has joined the praise and worship team.
Abigael and her family are grateful to MOHI for giving her a second chance to be in school.
