Greetings from Lochoredome!

I hope you are doing well. We want to express our gratitude to you for supporting the staff, children, and parents within the Lochoredome community. We would like to share some of the highlights of the first term of the year.

Flood Update:

Since this Community Update was written before the extreme rain and flooding took place in Kenya, we want to provide a quick update.

Despite the heavy rains, we are thankful to report that neither our center or the students we serve were directly affected. We did not experience the flooding that other areas were subject to.

If you'd like to donate to MOHI's flood relief efforts, you can donate here.

Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Judy*, born in 2013, is now 11 years old. She joined MOHI Lochoredome in 2021, marking a significant turning point for her and her family. Raised in Kosikiria village, within our Lochoredome community, Judy's upbringing was marked by economic, social, and cultural challenges. However, with access to education at MOHI, Judy became a catalyst for change within her family and community.

Despite societal norms that devalued girls' education, Judy embraced learning and, in turn, empowered her parents to adopt new ways of living. Through education, Judy advocated for the importance of embracing empowerment strategies. Her determination and leadership extended beyond the classroom, as she took on roles of responsibility and actively participated in school and community activities.

As Judy continued to excel academically, her influence grew within her community. She organized educational workshops for parents, encouraging them to prioritize their children's education and invest in their future. Judy's efforts resulted in increased parental involvement in school activities and improved support for students' learning.

Today, Judy's academic excellence and positive demeanor inspire those around her. Despite financial constraints, Judy's parents support her aspirations, and she dreams of becoming a teacher in the future. Judy's transformation is a testament to the life-changing impact of education and the unwavering support provided by MOHI.
