Hope Transforms: A Success Story
Ivan* is a Grade 3 student in Missions of Hope Grogan Center. He comes from a family of five and is being raised by a single mother.
We came to learn about Ivan when he was in Grade 1. At the time, his family was going through significant financial challenges. Ivan would come to school hungry, and the effects began to show. Out of desperation, he started stealing from small roadside food vendors. Ivan could also steal from teachers while at school.
Soon, Ivan began skipping school altogether. His mother would prepare him every morning, but he would not show up. He would sneak to the neighboring dumpsite to collect scrap metals so that he could sell them later.
We reached out to his mother and talked about Ivan’s struggles. As a team, his mother, the school chaplain, and the social worker developed a plan. Ivan would be allowed to carry cooked food from school to home in order to share with his young sister. Ivan was then counselled and encouraged to understand his mother’s current situation. Slowly, change began to manifest. He shunned away from the stealing habit, started attending school daily and focused more on his studies. He was even identified as the most improved student in his class in the year 2024.
At the beginning of this year, his mother secured a job as a janitor at our Baba Dogo Center, bringing financial stability to their home. Currently, Ivan is thriving in school. He attends class faithfully, performs well and has joined the Scouts Club.
We thank God for the transformation that has been witnessed in Ivan’s life and his family, too. We can’t wait to see this transformation go a full circle!

Term Highlights
- Our Grade 6 students successfully sat for their national tests and will be advancing to seventh grade. We wish them all the best.
- Thirty-one of our students took part in the grand Ignite program, and the experience greatly strengthened their faith.
- We celebrated as our 104 kindergarten students graduated. They will be advancing to Grade 1.
Church Highlights
- We held joint evangelism events with our sister school, Korogocho Nyayo, sharing the Gospel with our neighbors.
- As our Grade 6 students prepared for their national tests, we gathered as a community for special prayers over them, trusting God for peace, confidence, and success.
- We held a powerful Synergy Sunday service (a service that brings together the community, staff, and students to worship and strengthen teamwork) where 132 people attended.
- We conducted leadership training for all our church leaders to strengthen their skills and deepen their spiritual foundations.
- We held an overnight prayer vigil that brought together 40 believers for a time of worship, prayer, and spiritual renewal.
Partner Connections
- We were glad to host the Creek Christian Church (Indianapolis, IN) which took our eighth graders to a picnic and lunch. They also conducted a VBS for the entire school, where students had a wonderful time with crafts, games, and worship. Through these activities, the students grew in their understanding of God’s work in their lives and His love for them. Many expressed a renewed and increased love for God as a result of the visit.
Prayer Requests
- Pray for the financial uplift of our parents and good health given that they only have access to inconsistent casual labor. It is very hard to care for their families.
- Pray for the academic excellence of our students.
- Pray for more grace to our staff as they work in this community.
