Greetings from Korogocho Grogan!

Hello and praise the Lord. We are indeed grateful to the Lord for his provision, faithfulness and favor upon the students, parents and the entire Grogan community this term. We really appreciate your support, partnership and prayers. Here are some of the highlights of the second term of the year. God bless you.

Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Alvin* joined our Korogocho Grogan Center in kindergarten. He comes from a loving family where he lives with his parents and two sisters in Korogocho Grogan area. When he first started school, Alvin struggled with personal hygiene and academics. He would come to school with a dirty face, unkempt hair, a shirt with buttons missing, a torn sweater, and unpolished shoes with no laces. His bag was often empty and when asked he would say that his books got lost on his way to school.

Alvin could hardly read or complete his homework. He would hide his books under the desk and lie that the books had been stolen. He would sometimes pretend to be writing during class but he wouldn’t have written anything at all. After some time, he started leaving his homework book at home. He eventually started coming to school late and when asked why, he would fail to show up the following day. Healthwise, Alvin suffered from persistent ringworms and a runny nose.

Recognizing the need for an intervention, his social worker met with his parents and advised them to take Alvin to the clinic at our Pangani Center where he could receive medical attention. The social worker also consulted with Alvin’s teachers to create a support plan. They started helping him read daily and closely monitored his classwork. He was also assigned small responsibilities, such as collecting homework books and organizing areas of the classroom everyday, to encourage punctuality and attendance.

Thanks to these combined efforts, Alvin has made remarkable progress. His reading has improved, he completes his assignments on time, and no longer hides his books. Writing has become one of his favorite activities. Currently, he has been made the class monitor, making sure everyone’s homework is collected and organized each morning. This has made Alvin come to school every day without fail. His hygiene has also improved significantly - he comes to school in a clean uniform with well-polished shoes and keeps his nose clean.

We are indeed grateful to the Lord for Alvin’s transformation and we look forward to seeing him continue to grow and succeed.

  • We are proud of the Lord’s doing at our center. We are grateful for the successful relocation of our center after the flash floods in Kenya. We really thank God because we managed to accommodate our students in two nearby centers and learning has been taking place as usual.

  • We are so proud of all our staff members for all the support they have given our center during this time. They ensured that all our students were accounted for and settled into their new centers.

  • We have a new head teacher! We are so grateful for the successful transition. The staff, students, parents and the community at large have welcomed our new head teacher with open arms.

  • We were pleased to have hosted Outlook Christian Church for a Sunday service at our Outreach Hope Church Korogocho this term. We had a great time in the house of the Lord worshiping and praising Him. The team also had VBS for about 925 students that was focused on God's doing upon our lives. The students had a great time with their lessons, crafts and games.

  • We were pleased to have East 91st Street Christian Church which took the Korogocho Grogan staff for bowling this term. The staff had a lot of fun and later on proceeded for lunch.

  • Pray for the families that we serve in the Korogocho Grogan community, that they will be economically empowered to provide for themselves and their families, and live in unity and harmony in their homes and within the community.

  • Pray that God will continue to bless us with sponsors so that the unsponsored students will receive sponsorship.

  • Pray for the Korogocho Grogan staff, that God will protect our lives and our families as well so that we can continue transforming the lives of our students, their parents, and the community at large.
