Hope Transforms: A Success Story
Mary* joined our center in sixth grade. From the start, it was clear that she was a bright young girl, but life at home made it difficult for her to thrive. Both of her parents struggled with alcoholism. Her mother, a teacher in a neighboring school, would often go to work intoxicated, something that deeply embarrassed Mary. Though MOHI offered support, her mother’s condition worsened, eventually leading to the loss of her job.
Mary’s father didn’t have steady employment, and this instability made life even harder. The emotional stress, lack of sleep, and an unpredictable home environment began to take a toll on Mary’s academics, well-being, and even her physical health.
Eventually, her mother found another teaching job in a different town, but she didn’t take Mary with her. Instead, Mary was left in the care of a kind neighbor who took her in. Throughout this time, Missions of Hope International continued to stand by her side. The support of social workers, teachers, and counselors helped carry her through primary school and into high school at MOHI’s Joska Girls High School.
Though her home life remained challenging, Mary never gave up. She remained focused, determined, and hopeful for a better future. She is now doing well in her studies and is preparing to join a university or college to further her education.
Mary is also actively involved in MOHI’s Mnara program—a life skills initiative that equips high school graduates with practical tools to navigate adulthood. Through this program, she is gaining the confidence and skills she needs to build a strong and independent future.
Today, Mary carries herself with strength and grace. She is focused, hopeful, and ready to take on life’s challenges. We are incredibly proud of the young woman she is becoming, and we remain committed to walking with her as she continues to pursue her God-given potential.
