Flood Update:
Since this Community Update was written before the extreme rain and flooding took place in Kenya, we want to provide a quick update.
Although we recently experienced heavy rains and flooding, we are thankful to report that our center was not damaged. Unfortunately, however, the flooding directly affected several of our students and their families. We are connecting with them to provide support.
If you'd like to donate to MOHI's flood relief efforts, you can donate here.
Hope Transforms: A Success Story
Harry* and his two brothers faced adversity when their parents passed away from cancer, leaving the brothers homeless. Thankfully, a MOHI social worker rescued them from the streets and enrolled them in Kiamaiko School at the lower primary level. With their parents gone, life became even more challenging, but MOHI stepped in, offering them a chance to join our school which became a lifeline.
Thanks to MOHI, Harry and his siblings were able to continue their education from lower primary all the way through high school. This support not only ensured their academic progress but also provided much-needed stability in the absence of their parents.
Despite the obstacles they faced, Harry's younger siblings are still benefiting from the program. The youngest is now in Grade 9 in high school, while the second-born has successfully completed high school and looks forward to attending college.
Today, Harry works as a MOHI mentorship officer, grateful for MOHI's intervention in their lives. They didn't just provide an education; they instilled valuable life lessons and gave them a sense of purpose. Their story is one of resilience and positive transformation, made possible by the unwavering support of MOHI.
