Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Rukia* is a mother of two boys and a parent at our center. One of her sons is currently in preschool. The family lives just next to the school. Her son joined the MOHI program last year.

She has a hearing impairment, and when she first connected with us, she didn’t understand Swahili, which made communication very difficult. She was unemployed and often relied on neighbors for basic support.

After her son was enrolled, our social worker encouraged her to join a growth group. Through that group, she started a small soap-selling business and was motivated to take on casual jobs. She also joined microfinance loan groups, allowing her to begin saving for the first time.

Rukia has shown remarkable commitment to improving her life. She takes care of her sons with great love. She remains committed to ensuring her son attends school as required. She is also very eager to learn and regularly asks for advice on how to better support her family.

Over time, Rukia has learned to understand and speak some Swahili, which has helped her communicate more confidently with those around her. Despite all the challenges she has endured, she remains a loving and dedicated mother.

We trust God through committed guidance and cooperation that the family will experience full transformation for the glory of God.

  • We celebrated the baptism of 30 students who gave their lives to Christ during Angaza Discovery Camp (MOHI’s two-week intensive discipleship camp at the Kenyan coast for all sixth graders), a true testimony of spiritual growth among our students and the impact of the Christian camp.
  • We successfully held a kindergarten graduation ceremony for our 63 students.
  • Our Grade 6 students sat for their national test, demonstrating dedication and hard work throughout the year. We pray that the 58 students will excel with good grades.

  • We held overnight worship meetings, prayers, and training for leaders, during which we commissioned 10 leaders in various departments, such as deacons and deaconesses, ushers, and men and women leaders.
  • We had four discipleship programs that took place at different times throughout the term.
  • We held a Synergy Sunday service (a service that brings together students, staff and community members for worship, fellowship, and celebration of God’s goodness) to worship and strengthen our teamwork.
  • We conducted prayers for our Grade 6 and 9 students, where parents and teachers attended. These students sat for their national tests, and we are hopeful that they will perform well.

  • The Africa Fire Mission (Cincinnati, OH) team visited our center and conducted a fire assessment and evacuation training drill. This training will help ensure safer evacuations during emergencies both at school and at home. A total of 514 students and 30 staff members participated in the drill.

  • Pray for the Kiamaiko community, asking God to bring lasting peace and security. We ask for protection for our students, staff, and families.
  • Pray with us that as we serve, more spiritual transformation will be witnessed in the community.
  • Pray for the good health of our students, staff and their families.
