Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Helen* is a mother of six from our Kiamaiko Center. She has faced numerous challenges in her journey of raising her children. Her family has a history of drug abuse and living on the streets. Unfortunately, her husband struggles with substance abuse and, as a result, has been living on the street. This has left Helen to raise her six children alone.

MOHI’s relationship with Helen’s family began when we recruited her daughter, Linda, into our kindergarten class. Currently, she is in Grade 1. Through our interactions with Linda, we got to know more about the struggles that she and her family were facing at home.

At the time of Linda’s recruitment, Helen was not attending church and had not yet embraced the Christian faith. However, during a visit from one of MOHI’s partner churches, she made a life-changing decision to accept Christ and dedicate herself to spiritual growth. Today, Helen faithfully attends a local church along with her children, demonstrating a remarkable transformation in her spiritual journey.

Previously, Helen relied on casual jobs in the community to sustain her family. Despite these hardships, she took a bold step towards economic empowerment. At the end of the year, she started a small business selling jerricans and later expanded her venture by opening a small restaurant in her home. Helen is now able to provide for her children.

We continue praying for her family's restoration and continued favor as she takes care of her children.

• 24 of our kindergarten students were excited about the opportunity to participate in the Kenya National Drama Festival, where they showcased their dancing talents.
  
  
• The staff and parents had a very successful synergy service  (a church service that brings the staff, MOHI parents and community members together) with our partnering church, Nairobi Chapel.
  
  
• We bless the Lord for the dedicated teachers who have helped the students adjust smoothly into their new grades this first term. 
  
  
• Our kindergarten students sat for their very first tests, they did very well. Congratulations to our little scholars! 

• We were thrilled to host 20 students from Crossroads High School this term. All 714 of our students participated in an exciting Vacation Bible School, enjoying powerful moments of connection, worship, and learning. The Crossroads students also spent time with our partnering church, Nairobi Chapel, strengthening relationships and sharing ministry goals. They visited six homes alongside our students—a meaningful and eye-opening experience for both students and families. 

• Pray for our relationship with the community members in Kiamaiko as we relate with them to bring transformation through the love of Jesus. 
  
  
• Pray for good health and protection in families, staff and students at Kiamaiko Center.
  
  
• Pray for our students, staff and community members as they pursue relationships with God. May He meet them at their points of need.
