Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Antony* was born into a family where both parents struggled with drug addiction and a life on the streets. His early years were marked by instability and hardship. In 2022, MOHI social workers discovered him while they were conducting community outreach in the Kiamaiko community. On a school day, Antony was playing near a garbage collection site. When the social worker asked him where he lived, he said that they did not have a home but lived on the streets. They relied on the hospitality of relatives and friends around.

Concerned about Antony's situation, the social worker went in search of Antony’s parents. His mother was intoxicated and not in the right mind to fully understand the gravity of the situation. So the social worker had Antony enrolled and began the journey of walking with Antony’s mother to sobriety. Antony joined a kindergarten class and thrived in school. He loved it so much that he never missed a day.

Through ongoing encouragement and support from the social workers, Antony's mother has made significant strides as well. She now rents a house and no longer begs on the streets as before. She has found casual work within the Kiamaiko area where she is able to pay her rent and take care of Antony. She also takes keen interest in her son’s education by attending parents’ meetings and monitoring his progress in both academics and extracurricular activities.

The journey that Antony’s family has taken reflects the incredible impact of compassionate intervention and support, not just on one child, but on an entire family's future. All people need is someone to believe in them and to point them in the right direction. This was the case for Antony and his family. We thank God that we could be a part of what God is doing in this family’s life.

  • We are proud of our Grade 4 students who participated in the MOHI spelling bee challenge. Our Center won the first position where five students proceeded to finals.

  • Our kindergarten students had a cultural day. They showcased their talents in traditional songs and dances, having a great time entertaining one another.
  • Our students took part in national exams this term.

  • Our church in Kiamaiko this term was used as a safe haven for the families that were affected by the floods and demolitions. We praise God that the house of the Lord was able to house those in need.

  • We thank God for Summit Christian Church, who visited our center and held a VBS with art activities, games, and storytelling for our children in Grades 2 through 6. The youth were not left out either; they were happy to share their life challenges and receive advice on how to tackle them. Summit Christian Church also ministered to 40 women from the community, encouraging them and praying for them. They also ministered to the community through a skit, and during this event, 9 people gave their lives to Christ! Praise Jesus!

  • We welcomed Crossroads Christian Church, who held a VBS with our students from kindergarten to Grade 5. They shared Bible stories about casting our burdens to Jesus, did art activities, indoor games, and snacks. They also held conferences for Grades 6 through 8 and a color run, which students and staff enjoyed very much.

  • Pray for continued unity and harmony with the community members as we work with them to transform lives.

  • Pray for the bereaved students and staff members who lost their parents and loved ones this term. We pray for God's comfort.

  • Pray for God's provision to the families affected by floods and demolitions.

  • Pray for our church as they evangelize to the Muslim community in the Kiamaiko area.
