Greetings from Joska Girls High School!

Greetings from MOHI Girls Joska Center! Another amazing school term has come to a close, and we want to share some of the highlights. Thank you for your support and partnership as we work together to transform lives through Christ. The second term has been the busiest, offering exciting experiences with our visiting partners.

Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Meet Leila*, a resilient Grade 12 student who has faced great loss and personal challenges, but with the support of MOHI, she has found hope and renewed purpose. She has experienced loss; both parents are deceased, and two of her siblings have also passed on. Together with her sister, they have received guidance and counselling from our spiritual and mentorship departments. This has been great for Leila's psychological healing.

When Leila joined our school in 2019, she was struggling both academically and emotionally. She was also suffering from tuberculosis, which kept her out of school and affected her performance, especially during her first years in high school. These daily challenges made life unbearable for her, but she held on with hope.

Thanks to the care of Leila’s dedicated social worker, her health improved. The social worker ensured that Leila received proper treatment by accompanying her to the hospital and following up on her medication. Additionally, the support of a pastor who became a father figure, along with the mentorship and counseling Leila received at school, transformed her outlook on life. She worked even harder and stayed committed to her studies. She also discovered her singing talent and now uses her voice to praise God alongside her sister.

Glory to God! Leila is now in her final year of high school, preparing to graduate at the end of this year. Her performance has improved significantly. Recently, the school awarded her as the most improved student in her class. With her needs met through MOHI’s support, Leila can focus on her education and dream of a better future.

We give thanks to God for Leila's life.

  • Congratulations to our ball game teams that participated up to the county level. This includes netball, soccer, and rugby teams.
  • The singing talent was well put into practice through our music team, which got to the regional level in the Kenya National Music Festival. We celebrate the diverse talents in our girls.

  • During Youth Bible Study Week, 17 youths participated online each week, building stronger fellowship bonds.
  • The discipleship class grew to 75 students, all actively progressing through their lessons.
  • We are happy to announce that 66 students gave their lives to Jesus during weekend discipleship and fellowship sessions. We also strengthened youth fellowship, enhanced academic mentorship and test readiness, and increased community engagement through outreach, clean-up activities, and visitation programs.

  • This term, we hosted 33 teams, and this was very exciting. This included Lakeside Christian Church, who visited us for a school tour, brief orientation and student interaction. It was a blessing to have them speak words of wisdom to our students. They also prayed with our Grade 12 students from Joska School.
  • We hosted a dental team from Eastside Christian Church. The team offered dental services to students, staff, and community members in Joska and Ndovoini.
  • We hosted Christ’s Church of the Valley's medical team. The team attended to the community members, students and staff. All teenage mothers from the community had free scans, antenatal training and received baby kits in preparation to welcoming their unborn babies.
  • It was a blessing to host West Valley Christian Church for an orientation, school tour, and student interaction. They had a good experience learning how MOHI is impacting lives.
  • We were blessed to have the Youngs for a teachers’ training exercise. Twenty-two teachers from various departments were trained. This will be rolled out in the new term, where all staff will be taken through the same training.
  • A team from Rockingham Christian Church joined us for a church service at Joska Girls School. Their spiritual encouragement and joyful presence brought renewed energy to the students.

  • Pray for the good health of our students, their families, staff, and our partners.
  • Pray for God’s provision to our sponsors so that more students can be sponsored.
  • Pray for academic excellence in the upcoming national tests.
  • Pray for a smooth transition as our Grade 10 students move on to the next grade next year.
