Hope Transforms: A Success Story

Susan* is a cook at Joska Center. She is a resilient mother of eight children, six of whom are currently enrolled at MOHI centers. Her journey is one marked by struggle, perseverance, and transformation.

Before joining MOHI, Susan’s life was full of challenges. She and her children lacked a stable place to live, moving from one temporary shelter to another, relying on the kindness of well-wishers. Whenever these well-wishers could no longer accommodate them, they were forced to find solace elsewhere.

Susan’s husband had been battling drug addiction. At times, he exhibited violent behavior. This made life unbearable. But things began to change when leaders from MOHI’s Outreach Hope Church stepped in. Through regular pastoral support and counseling, the couple began to experience healing. They attended several counseling sessions that helped them grow together and build a more stable family.

Despite the hardships, Susan remained committed to giving her children the opportunity for a better future. With no steady income, she would take up casual jobs within the school, such as trimming grass and cleaning, to raise some cash. Her unwavering dedication to her family did not go unnoticed; she was offered a job as a cook, a life-changing opportunity that brought financial stability and a sense of purpose. With a steady income, Susan could now provide for her family. She began to support her children’s education by providing the basics. Slowly, her family’s living conditions began to improve, and hope was restored.

Spiritually, Susan has also experienced significant growth. She actively fellowships at Outreach Hope Church and attends morning devotions at the school. She is known for her hospitality and a heart of service to guests, leaders, and visiting teams.

Today, Susan is a symbol of hope and transformation within her community. Her children are healthy and performing well in school. Her story is an inspiration to many, a reminder that with support, hard work and faith, even the most difficult circumstances can be turned around.
